What is Active Release Technique™ (A.R.T.)?

A.R.T. is a patented soft tissue system that treats problems in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves by breaking up scar tissue and releasing adhesions surrounding these structures. Many conditions can be resolved quickly and permanently using A.R.T., including headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, shin splints, sciatica, shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, iliotibial band syndrome, jumper’s knee, chondromalacia patella and other knee problems. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are almost always the result of overused muscles.

What is an A.R.T. treatment like?

Every A.R.T. session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. Drs. Connor and Irwin use their experienced hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with specific patient movements. The specificity of A.R.T. addresses the fact that every injury has a unique effect to the biomechanics of the patient. A.R.T. has been found to be most effective when combined with other complementary therapies such as chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy.
